Useful information in this month of Holocaust Memorial Day. Includes stories from some of our survivor friends. Don't miss the chance to visit the Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre at the University of Huddersfield when this becomes possible again. A very moving and informative exhibition. Lots of fascinating online talks during lockdown too. ... See MoreSee Less

Everyone drew their houses for the 'Collect your Belongings' project and then Nomie, our much valued visual artist, has put them all together on this banner. And a very fine banner it is too. We are using it to frame the storytelling performances we are doing as part of the project. Fatima Hama and Nigel Grizzard were filmed in Dewsbury Minster this week in front of the banner. You will be able to see their storytelling as part of our online Holocaust Memorial Day event on the 27th of this month. ... See MoreSee Less

We have been very busy since late November with our 'Collect your Belongings' project so now it's time to put some news up here. Batley, Dewsbury and Huddersfield residents have been invited to get to know refugees from North and South Kirklees and create shadow puppet and storytelling performances together on the theme of belonging. Artists have been helping people to tell one another’s stories using specific “belongings” or objects as starting points. Some of the performances and photographs will be shared initially as part of an online Holocaust Memorial Day event on the 27th January (more news about this soon). It is hoped that the stories can be developed for performances later in the year in outdoor venues such as town centres and street corners, subject to Covid 19 regulations. Here's a few photos of work in progress to whet your appetite.Who's involved? Ten individuals or families from a variety of cultural backgrounds: Yorkshire, Syrian, Pakistani, Bosnian, Jewish, Kurdish and Sudanese. Co-ordinator, Kim Strickson. Facilitators, Adam Strickson and Marianne Matusz. Film maker Andy Wicks (who made our very successful and widely seen 'Small Contentments' film). #CreativeScene #Dewsbury #Huddersfield #batley #safercommunitiesfund #shadowpuppets ...
