A programme of events for Holocaust Memorial Day

Community groups and young people respond to the stories of Jewish, Burundian, Bosnian, Kurdish, Roma and Syrian survivors of genocide in words, music, pictures and processional figures.

Procession of Weeping Sisters   6.15pm
From the Commercial Hotel, New Street, Huddersfield to the University of Huddersfield, HD1 3DH

A solemn procession of large figures, reflecting the grief of women for the events of the Holocaust and other genocides. This year, they will be joined by a Burundian figure, made by people in Dewsbury, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Burundian genocide.

Guest speaker: Trude Silman, child refugee and life president of the Holocaust Survivors Friendship Association.

Refugees of more recent genocides and conflicts, who have found a home in West Yorkshire, will join Trude in an act of remembrance with music, poetry and the sound of tearing cloth.
